September 18, 2019 - 2:00 pm GMT/UTC
The International Solar Energy Society is hosting the next webinar in the IEA SHC Solar Academy's 2019 webinar series on Task 56 - Building Integrated Solar Envelope Systems for HVAC and Lighting.
The IEA SHC Task 56 focuses on the critical analysis, simulation, laboratory test and onsite monitoring of envelope systems entailing elements that use and/or control incident solar energy which aim to deliver renewable thermal or/and electric energy to the systems providing heating, cooling and ventilation to buildings and/or which aim to reduce heating and cooling demands of buildings, while controlling daylight.
Find more detailed information on Task 56 here.
Webinar Recording
Presenters
Three experts will speak during the 1.5 hours webinar and a recording will be available online afterwards:
- Roberto Fedrizzi: Assessment of Building Integrated Solar Envelope Systems (BISES) - Critical review and lessons learned
- Fabian Ochs: Detailed performance assessment of Building Integrated Solar Envelope Systems by means of numerical simulation.
- Martin Hauer: Combined thermal and lighting simulation of envelope systems through a fast pre-design software
The webinar will be moderated by Bärbel Epp, founder and managing director of the German consultancy solrico for solar market research & international communication.
Q/A Session:
The 90-minute webinar will include a 30 minutes Q/A session where attendees can submit their questions to the speakers.
The webinar is organized by the Solar Academy of the IEA SHC Programme and hosted by ISES, the International Solar Energy Society - the webinar presentations as well as the recording will be made available on both the IEA SHC and the ISES website after the webinar.
Bärbel Epp - Moderator
Bärbel Epp is the founder and managing director of the German consultancy solrico – solar market research & international communication. She is responsible for the international newsletter on the web portal www.solarthermalworld.org, reporting exclusively about market and technology trends in the solar heating and cooling sector. solrico also published the first World Map of SHIP suppliers (SHIP = Solar Heat for Industrial Processes) see www.solar-payback.com/suppliers and carries out surveys among the around 80 companies listed on the world map. Since three years Bärbel Epp is also author of the SHC chapter of the Annual Global Status Report on Renewables published by REN21.
Roberto Fedrizzi
Roberto is the leader of the Sustainable Heating and Cooling Systems research group at EURAC Research. His research activity focuses on design and management of heating and cooling systems exploiting compression and sorption heat pumps in combination with solar thermal and photovoltaic panels. He leads several projects in the field of residential buildings retrofit and utilisation of heat pumps in cold district heating networks. He is Operating Agent of the IEA-SHC Task 56.
Roberto's presentation will deal with the analysis of market available and under-development BISES. These include multifunctional façades integrating solar thermal, photovoltaic and natural lighting control devices. The systems have been assessed through a SWOT analysis which allowed extracting a few common lessons learned in terms of what are strengths and weaknesses of the different categories.
Fabian Ochs
Fabian Ochs works at the University of Innsbruck within the Unit for Energy Efficient Buildings since 2009, where he teaches in the field of Thermodynamics, Heat Transfer, Building Physics and Building and System Simulation. He also holds the lectureship Engineering Thermodynamics and Heat and Mass Transfer for the Master Energy Engineering at Free University of Bolzano/University of Trento since 2012. He works in and leads several national and international research projects dealing with energy systems and renewable energies for very efficient buildings, with focus on heat pumps as well as energy storage.
Fabian's presentation will focus on BISES (Building Integrated Solar Envelope Systems), which include a broad variety of technologies. Different solutions for office and residential buildings have been investigated and evaluated by means of building and system simulation. This allow to assess the impact on different buildings in different climates and to develop and optimize control strategies for coupled control of indoor air quality, thermal and visual comfort, considering optimal energy performance.
Martin Hauer
Martin Hauer studied Eco-Energy-Engineering at the University of Applied Sciences Upper Austria and received his PhD from the University of Innsbruck at the Unit for Energy Efficient Buildings. His research was strongly focused on the improvement of coupled energy and daylight simulation methods to enhance a buildings daylight utilization and energy efficiency via complex facade systems. After his graduation he continued as Senior Researcher at University of Innsbruck. Since March 2019 he is working as a Project Manager at the Research & Development department at Bartenbach GmbH. His work focuses on daylighting research with a strong connection to building physics.
In his presentation, Martin will introduce the free web tool DALEC which allows combined thermal and lighting simulations of facades. The performance of several façade configurations, occupant’s behaviour and control strategies can be tackled in a very early design phase and their influence on the energy demand of the building can be easily assessed.
